About Nil

Nil originally formed back at the dawn of time with Greg and John, as a guitar, bass and drums three piece.​

Years later, a short spell recording tracks with Greg sparked up my interest in writing again.. all new technologies, equipment and possibilities.. impossible to resist really!

So here we are.

Although Greg and John have moved on, many of the things that drove the music and lyrics then, are still embedded in today's new material...

​

• A strong emphasis on songs and melody.

• Heavy sounds.

• Some low loooowww tunings.

• A few guitar techniques and fx that are sometimes little diffrent from the mainstream.

​

The approach stays true to the original punk metal eithic.  The music is not in itself that technical, however it is wrapped up extensively in a digital shell.

​​

Songs are kind of progressive, a little trippy here and there, and all written around a classic power trio format.

​

Lyrics' subject matter takes a look at what it means to have made here at this place and time in the world - at the very peak of human existance - just as we give birth to our AI overlords.

No explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you are here and alive in your corner of time and the world. Whatever it means…  riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . . and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark where the wave will finally break and roll back.
